 The White Sox won the middle game of a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians on a Daniel Palka walkoff single. It was only Chicago's fourth walkoff win of the season, their fewest in season since 2010 (three walkoff wins).

 Yoan Moncada has 214 strikeouts and 64 walks on the season. Chris Davis (192 Ks and 41 BBs this season) and Marlon Byrd (185 Ks and 35 BBs in 2014) are the only other players who have had 150 or more strikeouts than walks in a single season of the live ball era.

 The Twins scored 20 runs across their last two games with Detroit to take the series, 2-1. Minnesota had six doubles in the Thursday game, tied for their second most in a game this season. Since September 7, the Twins have a .283 batting average, highest in MLB, and the team is 11-8.

 The Twins have gone 37-35 with Jorge Polanco in the starting lineup this season and 37-49 without him. Polanco has slugged .567 with 28 RBI in 31 career starts against the White Sox.

 RHP Reynaldo Lopez has pitched to a 0.67 September ERA, lowest in baseball (min. 25 IP), and he hasn't allowed more than a single earned run in his last five starts, pitching 6.0-plus innings in each. Lopez twirled a gem in his only start at Target Field, allowing only one hit in 7.0 innings of scoreless work.

 After two straight quality starts, RHP Jose Berrios was tagged for five earned runs in 5.2 innings against Oakland his last time out. In four starts against the White Sox this season, Berrios has a career 2.24 ERA against the South Siders, the fifth lowest among active pitchers who have made five starts against them.

 RHP Lucas Giolito has gone 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA in four September starts after going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in six August starts. His three-run ERA bump from August to September is the second-largest increase among American Leaguers with four games started in each month (Carlos Rodon - +5.04).

 RHP Chase De Jong will be making his fourth start since being called up in early September. After pitching four scoreless innings in his first start with the Twins, he has a 5.87 ERA and a .371 opponent batting average over his last two starts.

A surprise playoff participant a year ago, the Twins will be watching from their couches this October. That includes Joe Mauer, who will retreat to his home in St. Paul after Sunday's finale and contemplate his future.

Twins, White Sox close out lackluster seasons

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  Joe Mauer isn't sure if Sunday marked the end of his time with the Minnesota Twins. Just in case, though, the regular season finale turned into a farewell befitting his remarkable career with his hometown team.
Mauer doubled in his final at-bat, received one more pitch as catcher, and then walked off to an extended ovation as Minnesota likely said goodbye to the longtime face of its franchise during an emotional 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox.
