The Tigers and Rays will be meeting for the first time in 2015 on Monday. It's the latest date of their initial encounter since they waited until August 28 in 2009. Detroit leads the all-time series, 63-60.

The Tigers completed a 1-2 series at Boston this weekend as Detroit surrendered 20 hits in an 11-1 loss Sunday night. Having allowed 21 hits to Pittsburgh on July 1, it's the first time the Tigers have permitted at least 20 hits on multiple occasions in the same calendar month since June 1953.

The Rays have gone 1-2 in each of their last three series. Tampa Bay's 9-21 record since June 21 translates to the lowest winning percentage (.300) in MLB over that span.

The Tigers have won each of Anibal Sanchez's last eight starts, during which time they've scored at least four runs while Sanchez was the pitcher of record in all eight outings. His 8.84 runs of support per nine innings is the highest rate among all pitchers since June 9 (minimum 5 GS).

While Nathan Karns has sometimes encountered problems with the top of opposing lineups, permitting a .311 batting average to the Nos. 1-3 hitters, he's allowed a sub-.200 average to the rest of the order (.191 versus 4-9 hitters).

Evan Longoria hit his 10th home run of the season on Sunday, becoming the first player in Rays history to reach double figures in eight different seasons. It was Longoria's first homer since July 7.

Even when they've pitched well lately, neither Detroit's Justin Verlander nor Tampa Bay's Chris Archer can pick up a victory. It's been a whole lot longer, though, since Verlander got one.
Yet, a more interesting storyline going into Wednesday's series finale between the Tigers and Rays at Tropicana Field may be regarding who will be Archer's catcher.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)  The small, but appreciative crowd at Tropicana Field stood and cheered, urging Curt Casali to pop out of the dugout for a curtain call.
The Tampa Bay catcher's buddy, Detroit All-Star pitcher David Price, backed off the rubber to give his friend a chance to enjoy a moment the rookie won't soon forget.
