MADRID, April 26, 2014 (AFP) - Real Betis became the first side to be relegated from La Liga this season after Getafe's 1-0 win over Malaga on Saturday mathematically sealed their fate.
A crucial three points for Cosmin Contra's side lifted them out of the relegation zone and put them 13 points clear of Betis with just four games remaining.
Betis have suffered a torrid campaign after an impressive seventh-placed finish last season.
Coach Pepe Mel was sacked in December and his replacement Juan Carlos Garrido lasted only five league games before he suffered a similar fate.
Current boss Gabriel Humberto Calderon hasn't been able to turn things around either as Los Verdiblancos have still only amassed five wins in 34 league games this season.
