Messi named La Liga's best player as Marca unveils 2016-17 award winners
Lionel Messi couldn't capture his sixth Ballon d'Or, but the Barcelona star won't end the year empty-handed, as he won Marca's award for La Liga's best player of 2016-17.
On Monday, Messi received the Alfredo Di Stefano Player of the Year award for the fifth time at a gala at the Contemporary Art Museum in Barcelona.
Along with being named the best player in Spain's top flight - an honour Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo earned last season - the Argentine also picked up the top scorer accolade, known as the Pichichi Trophy, after recording 37 goals.
Iago Aspas, who was named La Liga's Player of the Month for November, won the Zarra Award, after leading Spanish-born players in scoring with 19 goals for Celta Vigo.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak was named La Liga's top goalkeeper for the second year in a row.
