Milan, Feb 10, 2023 (AFP) - Zlatan Ibrahimovic was back in contention for AC Milan for the first time in months after being picked on the bench for the troubled Italian champions' 1-0 win over Torino on Friday.
The 41-year-old had been sidelined since May last year after having the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee reconstructed.
He started as a substitute - and remained on the bench - for a Milan team that finally picked up its first win in any competition since early January.
Stefano Pioli's side desperately needs a boost with the first leg of its last-16 Champions League tie with Tottenham coming on Tuesday at San Siro.
Ibrahimovic, whose contract expires at the end of the season, returned to Milan in January 2020 eight years after leaving, and his arrival kick-started their return to the top of the Italian game.
The former Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United forward missed the last European Championship following surgery on the same knee in 2021.
He then suffered an Achilles tendon problem which cost him his starting position up front for Milan, taken by fellow veteran striker Olivier Giroud.
