Milan, Oct 11, 2022 (AFP) - Hellas Verona sacked coach Gabriele Cioffi on Tuesday after a poor start to the Serie A season which has left them in the relegation zone.
Cioffi had been brought in over the summer on a two-year deal following the departure of Igor Tudor, now at Marseille.
But they have won just once in their opening nine games after Giovanni Simeone, Gianluca Caprari and Antonin Barak -- who all helped Verona to their best campaign in years last term -- all left the club.
Sunday's last-gasp 2-1 loss at Salernitana was their fourth straight defeat and kept them 18th in Italy's top flight.
Italian media report that Diego Lopez, who has coached in Italy with Brescia and Cagliari, will replace Cioffi.
Lopez will have the daunting task of taking on champions AC Milan in his first game on Sunday.
