Ronaldo becomes 2nd man to score 100 international goals

Cristiano Ronaldo became just the second man to score 100 international goals in his career, surpassing the milestone with a brace in Portugal's 2-0 Nations League win over Sweden on Tuesday.

The Juventus superstar brought his tally to 101 for his country by delivering a pinpoint free-kick in the first half and an exquisite strike in the second stanza.

The 35-year-old joins Iranian legend Ali Daei as the only male footballers to crack the 100-goal plateau. Ronaldo now needs just eight more tallies for the Selecao to equal Daei's vaunted record of 109 goals.

Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas sits third on the all-time list, having registered 84 goals on the international stage during his celebrated career.

Ronaldo, who needed just 165 matches to hit the benchmark, is by far the active leader amongst all international scorers; Lionel Messi, by comparison, has found the net 70 times for Argentina.

The women's game, meanwhile, has seen 17 players hit the 100-goal benchmark, with Canadian superstar Christine Sinclair's 186 markers standing alone as the greatest haul in the history of international football.
