Napoli called out the Italian media in a series of impassioned tweets Tuesday after a photo emerged of the club's players using garbage bins as cryotherapy chambers.

The players were seen standing inside individual garbage bins full of water after a recent training session.

Napoli defended the practice on Twitter, saying the bins were brand new and thoroughly cleaned:

It's embarrassing to see how the media, even the most important outlets, reported the news that Napoli players have been using garbage bins to undergo cryotherapy, without verifying the reasons behind this initiative and whether it was (manager Gennaro) Gattuso's idea or common practice.

We'll do the work that hasn't been done.

Question: Why do you use the bins? Because they are very tall and wide and the players are submerged up to their waists. In addition, the bins meet anti-COVID requirements, as each player is submerged by themselves.

Question: Are the bins clean or dirty? Of course, they're not only clean but also new, have never been used before, and are sanitized three times a day.

Question: Are you the only ones who use bins for this reason? No, many teams do it.

Question: So it wasn't Gattuso's idea? No.

The 2020-21 Serie A season will begin on Sept. 19.
