Inter are close to securing the services of Manchester United captain Ashley Young.

It's understood the 34-year-old will officially join Inter this summer if the Serie A club fails to complete a deal with Manchester United before the January transfer window closes, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport.

Young has already agreed to terms over a contract that will keep him in Milan until the summer of 2021, according to Sky Sport's Gianluca Di Marzio.

There remains a chance Young could make the switch this month, but Stone reports United have yet to agree to a move.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared to rule out a move during the winter signing period when he claimed the club's objective was to add reinforcements rather than let players leave.

"We can't weaken ourselves; we need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen," he said.

With his United contract set to expire this summer, Inter would likely have to pay a nominal fee to complete the transfer in January.

Young is one of United's longest-serving players, appearing in over 250 matches since joining the Red Devils from Aston Villa in 2011.
