AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain received a two-match suspension for protesting a call in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

Lega Serie A punished Higuain on Tuesday for what it described as "grossly disrespectful conduct" toward official Paolo Mazzoleni.

Higuain will now miss Milan's upcoming matches against Lazio on Nov. 25 and Parma on Dec. 2.

The 30-year-old was sent off in the 83rd minute for reacting in a "disjointed and menacing manner" to one of Mazzoleni's calls.

Higuain, who missed a penalty earlier in the match, apologized on Instagram for the incident and promised it would never happen again.

He joined Milan from Juventus in the summer transfer window on loan with a €36-million option to buy.
