Lyon splash €20M for Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes

Lyon, Jan 30, 2020 (AFP) - French Ligue 1 club Lyon said Thursday they had signed defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on a 4-and-a-half year contract from Brazilian top-flight club Athletico Paranaense for €20 million.

An eventual sell-on fee of 20% will also go to the Brazilian club.

Several European clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have been linked to the 22-year-old who signed for the French club in Bogotoa, where he is with the Brazilian Under-23 squad for an Olympic qualifying tournament.

Guimaraes helped Athletico Paranaense to victory in the 2018 Copa Sudamericana and the Copa do Brasil the following year.
