Report: PSG nearing potential €45M deal for Bayern's Boateng
Paris Saint-Germain are negotiating a fee of around €45 million for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng after agreeing to terms with the player, a source close to the French outfit told ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted last month that a deal with the Parisian giant could be reached at the right price.
Boateng, one of the few players Bayern have allowed to leave, reportedly gave his OK to PSG after turning down an approach from Manchester United. Johnson's source also confirmed a report in Le Parisien that Bayern could lower their demands from their initial €60-million asking price.
The 29-year-old defender would reinforce one of PSG's lightest area of the pitch. The only senior center-backs currently available to manager Thomas Tuchel are Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, and Presnel Kimpembe.
Talks with Boateng's representatives started before the World Cup, according to the source. He proceeded to have a disastrous showing in Russia along with his German teammates.
It's unclear if PSG will violate UEFA's strict Financial Fair Play guidelines by signing the former Manchester City man. UEFA recently re-opened an investigation into the club's finances following public pushback over the costly acquisitions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
The transfer window in both France and Germany closes Aug. 31.
