Liam Lawson: Quick Start in Malaysia

Rotowire• ·

Lawson finished seventh in the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia Formula 1 race at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.

Analysis:

Lawson and his Racing Bulls team would make the right call to start the grand prix on intermediate tyres and get good grip in the wet conditions. He would rocket through the field on the opening lap, passing drivers starting the race on slicks. Lawson would vault from P11 to P4 by lap 3. All that track position gained would pay big dividends. Lawson would battle in the mid-field the rest of the way. A late safety car would bunch the field up again and Lawson would take advantage to hold off Fernando Alonso and secure the strong seventh-place finish in Malaysia.
