Oscar Piastri: Opening Lap Collision

Rotowire ·

Piastri finished 11th in the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Analysis:

The McLaren youngster would start eighth on the grid and get off to a strong launch at the lights out. However, he would get into some heavy traffic in turn 6 of the opening lap and be sandwiched between both Racing Bulls drivers. Contact during that scrap would damage Piastri's front wing. An unscheduled pit stop to replace wings would drop him back in the field and the recovery drive would begin. Retirements and safety cars would help aid his move back up through the field to an eventual P11 by the checkered flag.
