Verstappen wins 3rd straight Canadian GP

Red Bull's Max Verstappen won Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix for the third consecutive year.

Verstappen held off McLaren's Lando Norris, who earned a fourth podium finish in his last five races.

"I think as a team, we did really well today," Verstappen said. "We remained calm. I think we pitted at the right time. Of course, the safety car worked out nicely for us. But even after that, we were managing the gaps quite well. I love it. That was a lot of fun. Those kinds of races, you need them once in a while."

Mercedes' George Russell, who started on pole, edged out his teammate Lewis Hamilton to finish on the podium in third place. The fourth-place finish is Hamilton's best of the season and his first top-five finish this year.

"Felt like a missed opportunity to be honest," Russell said. "First podium of the year. We truly had a fast car this weekend."

It was a bitterly disappointing afternoon for Ferrari at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both failed to finish the race.

Both Williams drivers, Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, were also forced to retire from the race early.

Verstappen's Red Bull teammate, Sergio Pérez, had another tough day, failing to finish for the third straight race. Red Bull signed the 34-year-old to a two-year contract extension earlier this week that'll keep him with the team through the 2026 season.
