As Uruguay transitions from one generation to another, Oscar Tabarez is giving Jonathan Urretaviscaya a chance to show what he offers.

On Friday, Urretaviscaya was called up to Uruguay's senior team for the first time, as 24 players were summoned for Los Charruas' next two 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Tabarez's side will host Brazil on March 23 and invade Peru on March 28.

Urretaviscaya, who is employed by Club Pachuca, gives Uruguay an attacking option out wide. The 26-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder and a winger, and his talent was summed up in a goal he scored in 2016, when he started running from his own half, split Chivas' midfield, and eventually chipped the opposing 'keeper from inside the penalty area.

Another notable inclusion in Uruguay's squad is Alejandro Silva, who features at Club Olimpia and is returning to Los Charruas after a long absence.

Uruguay is second in CONMEBOL's 2018 World Cup qualifying, four points behind Brazil, which is at the summit of the standings. Three points against the Selecao would narrow the gap between the two national teams to only one point with five matchdays remaining.

Here's Uruguay's squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera, Martin Silva, Martin Campana

Defenders: Diego Godin, Jose Maria Gimenez, Sebastian Coates, Gaston Silva, Maximiliano Pereira, Alejandro Silva, Alvaro Pereira

Midfielders: Matias Vecino, Egidio Arevalo Rios, Mathias Corujo, Jonathan Urretaviscaya, Diego Laxalt, Carlos Sanchez, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Nicolas Lodeiro, Gaston Ramirez

Forwards: Edinson Cavani, Abel Hernandez, Diego Rolan, Cristhian Stuani, Luis Suarez
