Cleveland Cavaliers and Spanish national team guard Ricky Rubio will take a break from basketball to focus on his mental health, he announced in a statement via FEB.
"I have decided to stop my professional activity to take care of my mental health," Rubio wrote. "I want to thank all the support I have received from the FEB for understanding my decision. Today, #Family makes more sense than ever. Thank you. I ask that my privacy is respected to be able to face these moments and to be able to give more information when the time is right."
A spokesperson for the Spanish national team said Rubio won't be on the 12-man roster when it's named later this month, according to NBC Sports.
Rubio has been playing internationally for Spain's senior national team since 2008 when he helped the squad earn silver at the Beijing Olympics.
It's unclear if Rubio will be back for the NBA season. He has two years and $12.5 million remaining on his contract with the Cavaliers.
Rubio returned from a torn ACL in January and played in 33 contests for Cleveland last season.
