Jenni Hermoso, the victim of the Luis Rubiales "forced kiss" controversy after Spain won the 2023 Women's World Cup, rejoined Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

Hermoso, 36, left Mexican side Tigres Femenil earlier in August.

"I have been lucky enough to choose where I want to be and today I feel privileged to say that I am in the place I want to be," said the forward, ahead of her third spell with the Rojiblancos.

Hermoso began her career with Atletico and helped them win the Spanish league in 2019, the last time any side other than Barcelona lifted the trophy.

She played for Barcelona over two spells, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Rayo Vallecano among other clubs.

In 2023, Rubiales, then president of the Spanish football federation, kissed Hermoso on the mouth without her consent during the medal ceremony after La Roja beat England.

The incident sparked international controversy and led to Rubiales stepping down from his positions. In February 2025, a Madrid court found him guilty of sexual assault.
