Las Palmas captain suffers cancer relapse
Las Palmas captain Kirian Rodriguez said Thursday he has suffered a recurrence of his cancer and will miss the rest of the season while undertaking treatment.
During the 2022-23 season, the 28-year-old midfielder had to put his career on hold during a battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a blood cancer.
"Yesterday they told me I have had a cancer relapse, I have to stop for another six months and go through more chemotherapy to fight against the disease," Rodriguez said on Las Palmas' YouTube channel.
"I hope to be able to see everyone in the 2025-26 season, because I am 100 percent convinced that the club, the players and the staff, we'll still be in the top flight."
He has made 21 La Liga appearances this season for Las Palmas, 15th, two points above the relegation zone.
Rodriguez thanked his teammates and staff for not joining him as he announced the news, at his request, so they could focus on their league match against Villarreal on Saturday.
