West Ham confirmed Monday that midfielder Dimitri Payet will likely miss three months as a result of a rash challenge from Everton counterpart James McCarthy in Saturday's 1-1 draw.
The son of West Ham co-owner David Sullivan relayed the news earlier in the day, expressing his shock at the tackle that put the 28-year-old Frenchman out of commission.
Payet has emerged as West Ham's best player following his £10.7-million move from Marseille. Apart from starting all 12 Premier League matches this season, Payet has contributed with five goals and three assists.
Striker Enner Valencia also suffered an injured ankle in the same contest, with tests yet to confirm his prognosis.
