Report: Chelsea agrees to terms with former AC Milan 'keeper Marco Amelia

Chelsea, the laughingstock of English football this season, has reportedly turned to a 33-year-old 'keeper who hasn't had a long-term contract in over a year.

The reigning Premier League champion has agreed to terms with Marco Amelia, according to Sky Sports. Amelia has been training at Stamford Bridge since the end of September and was released by AC Milan in the summer of 2014.

Amelia, who had a short-term deal with Perugia of Serie B at the end of last season but never made a first-team appearance, was shown on Instagram on Wednesday with his agent, Federico Pastorello, celebrating his contract with Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho is apparently keen to have an understudy to Asmir Begovic after Thibaut Courtois underwent September knee surgery, and it appears the Special One would prefer to assign such a role to Amelia rather than 21-year-old Jamal Blackman, who has featured on the bench this season but yet to make his Chelsea debut.

It's worth noting Amelia was part of Italy's squad when the Azzurri won the 2006 World Cup and part of Milan's squad when the Rossoneri won the 2010-11 Serie A season. However, he was the back-up 'keeper in both instances, failing to make an appearance at the World Cup and making only four appearances as Milan captured the Scudetto five campaigns ago.
