Leighton Baines' recovery from ankle surgery will force him to miss Everton's preseason trip to Singapore.

The England international underwent the procedure in May, with manager Roberto Martinez explaining the injury had been bothering Baines for the better part of three years.

Martinez had originally hoped Baines would return in time for the team's preseason after describing the procedure as a "straightforward operation" shortly after Baines was ruled out of the team's final two matches.

The latest development, however, could mean the team is taking a cautious approach in order to ensure Baines is healthy for Everton's season opener against Watford on Aug. 8.

Everton released its squad for the upcoming 2015 Barclays Asia Trophy, where they'll play Stoke City on July 15 before a potential meeting with Arsenal or Singapore's Select XI in the final three days later.

Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo were the only other players expected to miss the visit to Asia, as the two continue to recover from injuries that forced them to miss the conclusion of last season.
