In what was a microcosm of Newcastle United's season, John Carver's side were defeated 3-0 at Leicester City on Saturday and finished the match with only nine players on the pitch.

However, one of the two red cards was earned in suspicious circumstances, as Mike Williamson received a second yellow card following a reckless 62nd-minute tackle on Jamie Vardy in which it looked like there was no intention of winning the ball.

After the final whistle, Carver –who appears to have lost the dressing room – addressed the incident with extraordinary honesty, stating his belief that Williamson was intentionally trying to be sent off.

"I thought to myself, he's done that on purpose," Carver said, according to BBC 606. "There was no need to make the tackle, he's now got a two-match ban with three games left. I don't know, is it an easy way out?"

Regarding the second sending-off, Daryl Janmaat received a second yellow card in the 90th minute and was seen removing his shirt as he walked towards the tunnel.

Newcastle really are a genuine mess these days and sit 15th in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone.
