Liverpool survived one of the most fascinating penalty shootouts in recent memory on Tuesday, reaching the last 16 of the Capital One Cup by defeating second-tier side Middlesbrough 2-2 (14-13) at Anfield.
Mario Balotelli scored twice, both goalkeepers found the net when called upon and supporters were treated to a lengthy spectacle that only ended when Albert Adomah fired his shot wide to give Liverpool the victory.

The reaction of the home crowd after each penalty - roaring applause for a Reds' goal followed immediately by groans of disappointment when the visitor's equalize - is the most enjoyable part of it all.
