LONDON, March 20, 2014 - Reading striker Jason Roberts announced his retirement due to injury on Thursday.

The 36-year-old has not made a single appearance for Championship side Reading this season because of a persistent hip problem.

"It has been an honour representing the Clubs I have played for..and the Fans that have always supported me."

Roberts started his career at Wolves and also played for Bristol Rovers, West Brom, Wigan and Blackburn.

In all, he scored 137 league goals in 449 games and his last appearance came in December 2012, during Reading's 1-0 Premier League defeat by Southampton.
