German legends believe Ozil shouldn't start in Brazil

Mesut Ozil is facing attacks on multiple fronts, but his place in the German national team lineup was believed to be safe.

Alas, the struggling Arsenal playmaker is facing fire back home as well, with German legends Lothar Matthaus and Gunter Netzer voicing their 'concern' with Ozil's state of mind.

"The leading role doesn’t suit Ozil, and you don’t do him any favours expecting him to lead a team. He doesn’t have the personality to want to be dominant," said Netzer in an interview with Kicker Magazine, via the Daily Mail.

Matthaus believes Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos could be a better option for Germany in Brazil.

"If Ozil is at his best, he can help, but the recent performances have raised doubts. If I compare him to those in Bayern’s midfield, I think I’d rather have someone like Toni Kroos in the side than Ozil."
