Report: Howe, Pochettino, Potter among candidates for England job

Three coaches have emerged as possible candidates to fill the void left at England after Gareth Southgate's departure.

Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino are understood to be the leading candidates after Southgate resigned as coach following England's Euro 2024 final defeat, according to ESPN's James Olley.

Howe is currently in charge of Newcastle United, while Pochettino and Potter are out of work after their respective spells at Chelsea.

The English Football Association (FA) wanted to retain Southgate's services beyond Euro 2024, regardless of its loss to Spain in Sunday's final in Germany, but the 53-year-old announced Tuesday that he was leaving after eight years in charge.

England under-21 coach Lee Carsley and former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel could also be considered for the role.

No candidates have been interviewed yet, and it's believed that the FA's preference would be to hire an English coach if possible, Olley adds.

Jurgen Klopp could emerge as another possibility, but the German coach said he wants to take a break after leaving Liverpool in May.
