Report: Chelsea submit bid in excess of €50M for Dortmund's Pulisic

Chelsea have offered Borussia Dortmund more than €50 million to sign highly rated winger Christian Pulisic next summer, sources told ESPN FC's Raphael Honigstein.

Dortmund, who've vowed to keep Pulisic through the 2018-19 season, will reportedly wait to see if any counteroffers arrive for the 20-year-old.

The fee would shatter the all-time record for an American. Center-back John Brooks became the most costly U.S. player ever after moving to Wolfsburg from Hertha Berlin in 2017 for a reported €20 million.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich have all been linked with Pulisic, whose contract with Dortmund expires in 2020. Dortmund expect the Gunners to come forward with a bid in the near future, according to Honigstein, with United and Bayern prioritizing other signings and club matters. Liverpool apparently dropped their interest in the player altogether.

Even though he's made just five Bundesliga starts this season, Pulisic is still considered a key component of Lucien Favre's squad, which has a legitimate shot at the Bundesliga title.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed in early December that the club intends to keep Pulisic this season.

"I strongly assume that Christian will still be wearing the Borussia Dortmund shirt in February," Zorc said.

But it appears only a matter of time before Dortmund ship out Pulisic, with the United States international seeing "no reason why" he won't play in the Premier League someday.

As a right-sided player, Pulisic could become Pedro's successor at Chelsea. He has the work rate to keep up with Blues manager Maurizio Sarri's demands and the ability to dribble past defenders.
