Patrice Evra's career has reportedly been given a lifeline.
West Ham is expected to offer Evra a short-term deal after holding discussions with the 36-year-old defender, according to the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.
Evra - who's available on a free transfer - was handed a suspension by UEFA until the end of the season and subsequently released by Marseille for kicking one of the club's supporters in the head.
The confrontation occurred in November as Marseille and Portuguese side Vitoria warmed up for a Europa League match.
The ban is only limited to UEFA club competitions, meaning Evra is eligible to play in the Premier League for the remainder of the campaign.
West Ham apparently turned to Evra as it scoured the continent for defensive reinforcements. With Arthur Masuaku in the midst of a six-game suspension, Aaron Cresswell and Pablo Zabaleta are currently the only healthy full-backs in David Moyes' squad.
Evra previously worked with Moyes during their brief time together at Manchester United.
