Report: Rooney's agent in China to evaluate offers
Wayne Rooney's agent is currently in China to see if he can land a lucrative deal for his high-profile client, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone, but the chances of securing a move before Feb. 28 reportedly remain "highly unlikely."
The Chinese transfer window closes at the end of the month, although Stone indicates a summer move "seems certain" if Rooney does not leave Manchester United over the next six days.
A lack of playing time, and no guarantees from manager Jose Mourinho that more minutes will come Rooney's way, has stoked reports of a switch to the Far East.
It's not clear which clubs agent Paul Stretford will meet with during his time in China, but the BBC's Richard Conway understands a deal with capital outfit Beijing Guoan is not an option.
Talks with Tianjin Quanjian did occur, according to club manager Fabio Cannavaro, but didn't reach an advanced stage because "he simply doesn't suit our style of play."
The Guardian's Jamie Jackson believes Rooney still wants to fight for his place with United, despite being left off the 18-man squad for Wednesday's 1-0 win at St. Etienne.
But Mourinho said he cannot say whether Rooney will be with the team next season, fuelling suggestions he will leave in the summer.
United's record goal scorer has not started a Premier League match since Dec. 17.
