Diego Costa has been replaced by Iago Aspas in the Spain squad after the Chelsea forward was forced to withdraw with an injury.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation didn't immediately reveal the nature of the injury.
Earlier in the week, Costa missed a pair of training sessions with the national team due to muscle fatigue and a left groin injury.
However, manager Julen Lopetegui was optimistic the 28-year-old would recover in time to feature in Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Macedonia.
Costa - the Premier League's top scorer with nine goals - could also be in danger of missing Spain's friendly against England on Nov. 15, as well as Chelsea's league fixture against Middlesbrough on Nov. 20.
