Kompany confirms he'll miss Euro 2016 after injury setback
Vincent Kompany won't take part in Belgium's Euro 2016 campaign. He confirmed on his Facebook page Saturday that the muscle injury he suffered in Champions League action earlier this week will force him to miss the tournament.
After struggling to stay fit all season, Kompany required yet another premature substitution just nine minutes into Wednesday's semi-final clash against Real Madrid. A calf problem has caused the Manchester City captain the most trouble, but it's a suspected thigh issue this time that's ruled him out.
"I could be standing here, feeling sorry for myself. I could fear for my career, as others may do. I could give up. That is not me. I decide on my future," Kompany wrote. "... I trust my friends and teammates to do well and do us proud at the next European Championships in France. I am now officially their most fervent supporter and I will be there to support them."
The 30-year-old has suffered 33 injuries - including five this season - since arriving at the Etihad in 2008. He reportedly flew to Barcelona on Thursday to seek the help of a specialist, but it appears there was nothing that could be done.
