The Football Association has suspended Leicester City defender Robert Huth and Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini for three matches after the pair were charged with violent conduct, the English governing body announced Thursday.

Both of the suspensions come into immediate effect, meaning they will each miss their team's final two matches of the season.

The pair were involved in a nasty scuffle May 1, that saw Huth pull Fellaini's hair before the latter retaliated by swinging his elbow and hitting the Leicester defender under the chin.

The FA announced that while both players accepted the charge, Huth contested that his three-match ban was "clearly excessive".

An independent regulatory commission, however, rejected the German defender's claim.
