Jonathan Moss, under the spotlight following his controversial performance at King Power Stadium earlier this month, is the Premier League's most error-prone referee this season, according to a study.

On Thursday, You Are The Ref, a media channel that offers "an informed voice to all match officials across the world" and provides "unprecedented insight into the key decisions that challenge the sport," revealed some shocking statistics about just how many game-changing errors have been made by match officials in the Premier League since August.

Most notably, You Are The Ref's study revealed Moss is leading the way for mistakes, tallying 13 key match errors thus far.

Keith Hackett, former general manager of Professional Game Match Officials, was quick to say that football as a whole should take note of the study, saying: "There is no question that the Premier League has some outstanding referees. The problem is that there are not enough of them.

"During my time in charge, we calculated that errors totalled around 38 across a full season at an average of one every ten games. Our aim as a group was always to go through a round of fixtures without one."

Less than two weeks ago, Moss was booed off the pitch by supporters of both Leicester City and West Ham United after the two clubs played out a 2-2 draw. He became the first referee to send off Jamie Vardy since the player joined the Foxes in 2012, issuing the English forward a second yellow card for diving in the second half. Later, in the 94th minute, he awarded Claudio Ranieri's side a soft penalty kick after Andy Carroll committed a clumsy challenge on Jeffrey Schlupp.
