The Premier Golf League extended offer letters to a group of top players in its ongoing attempt to create a rival circuit to the PGA Tour, according to the Guardian's Ewan Murray.
The team-format tour, which is in its infancy, reached out to Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, and Paul Casey with guaranteed-money offers totaling hundreds of millions of dollars to join the concept tour, according to Murray.
The circuit, which is backed by the New York-based Raine Group, declined to comment on the offer letters.
Many of the game's top players, including Rory McIlroy, have spoken out against a rival circuit that hopes to lure top-tier talent to compete in smaller fields for larger pursues all over the world.
"The one thing as a professional golfer in my position that I value is the fact that I have autonomy and freedom over everything that I do. I pick and choose," McIlroy said in February. "If you go and play this other golf league, you're not going to have that choice."
McIlroy didn't receive an offer letter.
