Coventry's bid for promotion to the Premier League suffered a fresh blow as the Championship leaders lost 2-1 at QPR on Saturday.

Josh Eccles gave Coventry an early lead but QPR responded in the second half with Richard Kone's equaliser and Nicolas Madsen's late winner.

Frank Lampard's side are now level on points with second-placed Middlesbrough.

Coventry have blown a sizeable lead at the top and they are just five points clear of third-placed Hull, who have a game in hand, in the race for automatic promotion via a top two finish.

The Sky Blues, who thrashed QPR 7-1 in August, have gone eight away matches without a win, a run which has included five defeats.

Middlesbrough took advantage of Coventry's slip with a 1-0 victory over Norwich at the Riverside Stadium.

Norwich had won their previous four matches, but Hayden Hackney curled home from long-range in the 17th minute as Kim Hellberg's side claimed their fifth successive victory.

Lewis Koumas scored four minutes into his Hull debut to seal a 1-0 win at third bottom Blackburn.

The 20-year-old, signed on loan from Liverpool on Friday, was introduced as a 77th-minute substitute and made an immediate impression, slotting home with nine minutes remaining.

That was enough to secure a fourth successive win for Sergej Jakirovic's team.

Fifth-placed Millwall were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United at The Den, while Wrexham moved back into the play-off places after Sam Smith clinched a 1-0 win at bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday.

Conor Chaplin scored the first goal of his second spell at Portsmouth in a 3-0 victory over relegation rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Chaplin, who first joined Pompey as a six-year-old and has returned on loan from Ipswich, opened the scoring before Millenic Alli and Ebou Adams netted to wrap up the points at Fratton Park.

Beleaguered Albion have won just once in nine matches and sit just three points outside the relegation zone.
