Report: Klopp rejects offer to become next USMNT coach

Jurgen Klopp rejected the chance to become the next head coach of the United States men's national team, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The former Liverpool manager reportedly declined an approach to replace Gregg Berhalter, who was relieved of his duties Wednesday after the United States' disappointing Copa America campaign.

Klopp told officials from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) that he wants a break from the sport after they contacted the 57-year-old regarding his interest in taking charge, Ornstein added, citing sources.

Despite Klopp's response, Ornstein's sources say U.S. Soccer remains interested in appointing the German as its next permanent coach.

Klopp is currently out of a job after ending his influential nine-year spell with Liverpool in May.

Berhalter was in charge of the United States men's team for almost six years - technically split between two stints - before the team's group stage exit at this summer's Copa America led to his dismissal.
