Report: Inter in advanced talks to re-sign Lukaku on loan from Chelsea
Inter Milan are in advanced talks with Chelsea to re-sign Romelu Lukaku on loan, The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano reports.
Chelsea want Inter to pay €10 million to register Lukaku for the upcoming season. The Nerazzurri's latest offer is €7 million plus add-ons, according to Romano.
Negotiations between the parties are ongoing.
Inter also need their owners to approve the deal, but president Steven Zhang isn't yet on board with the Italian side paying an onerous loan fee and covering Lukaku's full salary, sources told David Ornstein of The Athletic.
If an agreement is ultimately reached, it would bookend a whirlwind 10 months for the Belgian international. Chelsea stumped up a club-record €115 million to sign Lukaku from Inter in August, only for him to struggle to get playing time. The 29-year-old scored just eight goals across 16 starts and 26 total appearances in the Premier League in 2021-22.
Lukaku said in an unauthorized interview in December that he hoped to rejoin Inter, indicating he was unhappy with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel's tactics. Chelsea fined the striker, who later apologized and vowed to "restore" the fans' faith in him.
