By the numbers: Werner mercifully ends 100-day EPL scoring drought

Timo Werner could only laugh as referee Peter Bankes confirmed his goal Monday against Newcastle United. He'd waited 100 days to score in the Premier League, so of course, he'd have to wait a moment longer.

The Video Assistant Referee found no reason to overturn Werner's first-half effort, an opportunistic finish off a corner kick. Werner, Chelsea's embattled summer signing, could breathe.

The goal - which clinched a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge - was his first in the Premier League since a 4-1 result on Nov. 7 against Sheffield United.

Now that Werner's brought a merciful end to his scoring drought, here are the numbers that put it into incredible context.

1: The number of posts Werner hit during his barren spell. He cracked the crossbar with what looked like an easy tap-in toward the end of a dominant 3-0 win on Dec. 21 against West Ham United. Werner's hit the woodwork five times in the Premier League this season - more than any other player.

4: Werner played in four different attacking positions since he last scored in the Premier League. After spells as a lone striker, winger, and attacking midfielder, the 24-year-old broke his duck as a left-sided forward in Thomas Tuchel's new 3-4-3 formation.

14: The number of appearances Werner made between goals in the Premier League. He started 11 of those matches.

31: Werner fired 31 shots before finally finding the back of the net. Former manager Frank Lampard and current boss Tuchel repeatedly credited the German for being active and involved.

100: The number of days between goals in the Premier League. It doesn't, however, constitute the longest drought of his career. Werner went 196 days without a goal between stints at Stuttgart and RB Leipzig in 2016.

1,000: Werner's Premier League scoring drought lasted exactly 1,000 minutes.
