Report: Everton-Emery discussions unlikely to result in hiring

Everton's search for a new manager is set to continue after an unproductive meeting with former Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

Emery is eager to resume his Premier League career and was intrigued by Everton's managerial opening, according to ESPN FC's Alex Kirkland.

However, the feeling isn't mutual, as the Spaniard is unlikely to be offered a contract to manage at Goodison Park, Kirkland reports.

The return of former Everton manager David Moyes remains a possibility, according to BBC Sport's Phil McNulty.

Carlo Ancelotti is another candidate to succeed Marco Silva, who was sacked last week following Everton's lopsided Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool.

Arsenal are also reportedly eager to speak with the Italian manager following his dismissal from Napoli just hours after helping the Serie A club reach the knockout stage of the Champions League.

The Gunners would likely be considered the favorites to sign Ancelotti, though, as the 60-year-old reportedly prefers to work in London.

Several La Liga clubs are considering a move for Emery, who previously enjoyed a successful three-year spell as manager of Sevilla, Kirkland adds.

Emery led the Spanish side to three consecutive Europa League titles before plying his trade in France at Paris Saint-Germain.
