Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will not feature in Egypt's upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers because of a left ankle injury.

The decision to rule the Liverpool star out of matches against Kenya and Comoros was made after the Egyptian medical team carried out tests on his ankle, the African nation said in a statement Tuesday, as translated by James Dale of Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old scored in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday but was forced to leave the contest in the 87th minute.

Salah met up with his Egyptian teammates on Tuesday and was pictured wearing a walking boot on his left ankle.

The injury has lingered since Liverpool's win over Leicester City on Oct. 5 and forced Salah to miss the Reds' draw against Manchester United just over two weeks later.

The Egyptian star has scored six goals in the Premier League and another three in the Champions League.
