Report: Hudson-Odoi back in training after rape accusation
Callum Hudson-Odoi took part in Chelsea's first limited group training session Tuesday, days after he was reportedly arrested on suspicion of rape, sources told James Olley of ESPN.
Hudson-Odoi, 19, was arrested early Sunday morning after a woman called police to his apartment and said she had been raped, it was previously reported. The two apparently met online before Hudson-Odoi invited the woman to his residence.
Police released a statement about an incident that matches the description of Olley's report but didn't disclose whether the player was involved.
"Police and London Ambulance Service were called at 03:53 a.m. (local time) on Sunday, 17 May to a report of an unwell woman," a police spokesman said, according to Olley. "When emergency services attended, a woman reported that she was raped. She was taken to hospital.
"A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of rape. He was released from custody and bailed to return on a date in mid-June."
Neither Chelsea nor Hudson-Odoi have commented on the matter.
Manager Frank Lampard and the club's medical staff decided the teenager could take part in Tuesday's session despite the fact that he breached the British government's social distancing guidelines by coming into contact with a stranger at his home, Olley noted.
Hudson-Odoi was the first Premier League player to test positive for COVID-19 in March. He has since recovered and tested negative for the disease.
