David Luiz reportedly could be pushed toward the Stamford Bridge exit.
Luiz's contract runs out at the end of the season, and Chelsea has a policy of offering just one-year contract extensions to players over 30. The Brazilian is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge, but wants a greater investment from the club than a mere 12-month deal, according to the Telegraph's Matt Law.
"I am just trying to enjoy myself, like I do every single day," said Luiz, when asked about his future. "Then, for sure, we will do the best thing for me, for Chelsea, for everybody."
The 31-year-old added: "We are still talking, let's see. Let's see what the future brings. I love this club, everybody knows I want to stay."
Luiz, who starred in the London side's 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday, could secure a longer deal elsewhere. With the former Paris Saint-Germain man able to hold talks with clubs in January over a summer move, Law suggests he is expected to start receiving offers from abroad next month.
One thing that may be playing on Chelsea's mind is the tangible threat of a transfer ban. The worst-case scenario would mean the club would not be able to make a major signing for the next two years, which heightens the importance of keeping Luiz.
Luiz has played over 200 games for Chelsea across two spells in west London.
