Tottenham is reportedly ready to test Fulham's resolve with a £35-million package for teenager Ryan Sessegnon, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.
But that may not be enough - not even for a 17-year-old who's yet to play a minute of top-flight football. Fulham is looking for a fee closer to £50 million, Law reports, and may not entertain any offers if it clinches promotion to the Premier League.
Tottenham and Manchester United have expressed the strongest interest in the 17-year-old over the past year, with Spurs emerging as the most likely destination. United was reportedly prepared to spend £25 million on Sessegnon last January to replace the struggling Luke Shaw.
A left-back by trade, Sessegnon has thrived in a more advanced role under manager Slavisa Jokanovic, scoring 13 goals in 34 appearances in the English second tier. His hat-trick performance in November's 5-4 victory over Sheffield United made international headlines.
Tottenham is apparently confident that Sessegnon would favour a move to north London because of manager Mauricio Pochettino's experience with developing young players.
If Spurs were to sign Sessegnon for £35 million, he would become the club's second-most expensive signing behind Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez.
