Chelsea have already begun preparations for the 2023 summer transfer window.

In an effort to bolster their attack, Chelsea appear likely to target Christopher Nkunku next year after conducting an initial medical check on the RB Leipzig forward during the last transfer window, reports Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian.

It's understood that a member of Chelsea's medical staff was present when the France international underwent examinations in the summer.

Nkunku reportedly has a £52.8-million release clause in his contract, which will allow him to leave Leipzig next summer if another team activates it.

Competition for the 24-year-old, who scored 35 goals last season in all competitions, is likely to heat up before the campaign ends as he's also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain.

A potential move for Nkunku comes after a summer in which Chelsea already attempted to strengthen their attack with the signings of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Meanwhile, the Blues parted with Timo Werner, who was sold back to RB Leipzig in August following his unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge.
