Neymar's accuser indicted for extortion
The Brazilian model who accused Neymar of rape has been indicted for extortion.
Najila Trindade and her ex-husband attempted to blackmail Neymar by alleging the Paris Saint-Germain star raped her at a Paris hotel in May, Sao Paulo police said Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.
Trindade also stands accused of procedural fraud and slanderous denunciation, reports The Associated Press. Her former partner, Estivens Alves, is being cited for disclosing erotic content.
Judge Ana Paula Vieira de Moraes closed the case against Neymar in August, citing a lack of evidence and recommendations from state prosecutors. One of the prosecutors said Trindade refused to hand over her phone to authorities and later revealed it was stolen.
Trindade had released video of an altercation between the two to lend credence to her allegations. Neymar, who has always denied the accusation, posted private WhatsApp messages and other intimate exchanges with Trindade online in an attempt to prove his innocence.
After prosecutors ended their investigation, police pursued Trindade for falsely reporting the incident.
