Montreal Alouettes quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. announced Sunday that he will opt out of his contract with the team in order to pursue NFL opportunities.
Adams joins a handful of CFL players opting out of their deals after the league canceled its 2020 season.
"I want everyone who reads this to know that I am still completely committed to this franchise and city going forward, and that should no NFL opportunity materialize this year I will be returning to the Als with the exact same goal in mind: let's build a dynasty," Adams said in a statement.
According to the agreement between the CFL and the CFL Players Association, Montreal would retain the quarterback's rights should he not secure a spot on an NFL roster.
Adams completed 65.7% of his passes last season for 3,942 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, adding 394 yards and 12 scores on the ground. He led the Alouettes to a playoff berth with a 10-8 record.
