It's Johnny Football time.
The Montreal Alouettes announced Tuesday that Johnny Manziel will be the team's starting quarterback for Friday's game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Manziel will attempt to jump-start Montreal's struggling offense in his CFL debut. The team currently sits last in the Eastern Conference with a 1-5 record.
The Alouettes acquired the former NFL first-round pick from Hamilton just over one week ago. He did not feature in Montreal's Week 7 defeat against the Edmonton Eskimos, but took first-team practice reps this week.
With Jeff Mathews and Drew Willy injured, Manziel will have every opportunity to seize the starting quarterback spot for the foreseeable future.
In two preseason games with the Tiger-Cats, Manziel completed 21-of-31 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed six times for 29 yards.
