During the Montreal Alouettes' loss to the Edmonton Eskimos last week, 'We want Johnny' chants could be heard across Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

It was clear that a number of Montreal fans wanted to see quarterback Johnny Manziel take the field for his CFL debut, but the team's other quarterback, Vernon Adams, took offense to this.

"Yes, it hurt me to hear that," Adams told La Presse. "I have nothing more to say or to give to the fans of Montreal. Never again.

"Their behavior was very disrespectful. It was not like I was playing badly. I do not want them to ask me for anything, not even a small piece of equipment."

Adams was making his first start of the season against Edmonton, and went 15-for-28 for 217 yards and one interception. There were rumors prior to the game that Manziel would see limited snaps, but that was not the case.

"I do not care what the situation is, it was a lack of respect and it affected me," Adams said. "I tried anyways to make plays on the field. But that's fine. In the future, I'll treat the fans as they treated me. That's all.

"My performance was not perfect, but I think I played a pretty good game overall."

Despite Adams' comments, the struggling Alouettes appear to be close to making a change at quarterback, as Manziel received first-team reps during Monday's practice.

The 1-5 Alouettes host Manziel's former team - the Hamilton Tiger-Cats - Friday night.
