Manziel says he'll play in CFL if NFL opportunity doesn't come
If the NFL doesn't want Johnny Manziel's services, he's willing to take them north of the border.
After a Tuesday workout in front of scouts at the pro day of his alma mater Texas A&M, the 25-year-old told reporters he'd play in the Canadian Football League should a second chance in the NFL remain elusive.
"If something pops up, it pops up," Manziel said, via TSN. "And if not, and I don't get the opportunity to go back, I'm going to go play in the CFL. And things are going to be fine."
The former Heisman winner was in talks to join the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the 2018 season, but negotiations hit a stalemate over the signal-caller's asking price of $500K earlier this year. He's since signed with the developmental Spring League and is expected to report in Austin on Wednesday.
Manziel hasn't played on the NFL gridiron since the 2015 season. The Cleveland Browns - who made him the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 draft - released him in March 2016, but the oft-troubled pivot hasn't given up hope of rejoining the league. Tuesday's workout marked his second in front of pro scouts in under a week.
